The President recently made remarks on the concept of “immigration reform.” He stood regally, read from his tele-prompt-ers (peppered with awkward pauses due, most likely, to a poor Tele-promp-ter Management Administrator) and spoke about things that almost made sense. However, he would quickly correct himself by speaking in his more familiar tongue of nonsense. Simply, it was a speech that was meant to say, “I gave a speech.” It was, once again, quasi-action designed to give the appearance of action from an administration that is deeply and gravely opposed to the concept of action – on a subject (illegal immigration) that requires definitive action.

I have grown accustomed to the nonsense from this administration. I have watched them with their deft skills maneuver around big issues, skirt major decision and purposefully fail to achieve solutions. This is the mark of the Statist. Problems offer opportunities for expanding power (government control) whereas solutions remove the opportunity to expand power (government control). Many people quote Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel when he said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” What they fail to mention, however, is the second part, which is the most telling, and most damning. Emanuel continues, “…and what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

This is why the Administration won’t seal the border, and is virulently opposed to Arizona enforcing the existing Federal law. They call the Arizona law “ill conceived.” Solutions, for this administration, put an end to the opportunity to do things you think you could not do before. Solving problems stands in bold juxtaposition to the desires of the Obama administration.

In his speech, the President made overtures to the power of immigrants, and to the impact they have had on our country. However, he failed to understand why immigrants come to the country in the first place. If we are going to discuss the historical context of why immigrants traditionally came to the United States, then we must accept that it is for Freedom and Liberty. If we are going to then follow up, and understand what allowed these immigrants to grow, thrive and prosper, then we must accept that it is Capitalism.

The growth and success of immigrants is not by accident, nor is the growth and success of people born in the United States. Growth and success (and numerous other wonderful effects) are born out of opportunity. Opportunity exists when Natural Laws are understood and adhered to. Opportunity exists when government gets out of the way…..when people taste the fruits of their labors, when they are enabled to try, fail, learn and the try again.

We are not a prosperous, vibrant nation because we allow immigrants into the country, and I say this as a second generation American. My grandparents came to America in the 1930′s – on different boats – from Poland. They met in night school in Brooklyn where they were learning English. They were promised nothing tangible. They were not promised food, nor housing, nor clothing nor healthcare. They were not promised money, nor government hand-outs. What they were promised was the promise of America – opportunity. That they would not be attacked in the streets for being Jewish, (as opposed to the land they recently departed) and that they would not have their property taken from them without due process. That the concepts of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” derive from Natural Laws, and that no man has the right to take them away from another man. What allowed my grandparents to prosper was Capitalism. If they worked hard, if they had good ideas, if they were willing to try, they could achieve their American dream.

President Obama singled out Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, as if his success existed because we allow immigrants into the country. This is simply word play from the President – We allow immigrants, immigrants create search engines. Ta-Da!

The United States trusts, believes in, employs and relies on Capitalism to be the basis of a free people. When this system is allowed to work, with minimal government involvement, anyone who participates within it has the opportunity to grow and thrive. It is a testament to the system that those who are not born in the US can gain great financial and personal success if they work within it. The success of the United States is based solely and firmly in the concept of equal opportunity, and in enjoying the benefits of one’s hard work (as opposed to those benefits being the property of the state.)

It is dishonest for President Obama to simply say that our nation’s success is based on our allowing immigrants into the United States. This would lead one to believe that those who are opposed to illegal immigration are opposed to the success of the United States, and that any nation that allows immigrants will have instant success.

To be opposed to illegal immigration is an affirmation that the United States is a nation of laws. We do not allow ruthless thugs to intimidate us, nor do we allow those who do not follow the rules to gain credibility (and certainly not citizenship!) If any nation that allowed immigrants achieved instant success, then the United Kingdom and France (flush with Muslim immigrants) would be the most successful nations in the history of the world. Yet, as we know, they are not. The UK is, day by day, falling apart under the weight of its socialist government, and the undermining of its Western values. France is doing no better.

The President, once again, does not understand the issue in front of him. Capitalism is the foundation of our greatness. It comes from Natural Laws. The acceptance of ”…huddled masses, yearning to breathe free…” makes us a caring nation, but it is not our laws. It is not the basis of our way of life, and it alone does not, can not and will not make any nation great. It is Capitalism that provides the framework, the opportunity for greatness and lets all of our lawful citizens prosper – regardless of their place of birth.

Yet another example of the over reaching of the courts, the violent attack on business, and how no one is paying attention to this vicious assault.

In the Netherlands, a worker at McDonald’s was fired for putting cheese on a hamburger for a fellow employee. There was an employee was on break who ordered a hamburger. Her friend, making the hamburger, decided to be nice on the company’s dime, and added some cheese to the regular burger order. This was caught by management, and the employee who made the burger was fired.

Enter the lawsuit. Enter the courts.

The Dutch court decided that the employee was unfairly terminated. That being fired, for theft, was simply too great of a punishment. The court decided that the employee deserved back pay, totaling $5984 (USD), as well as paying all court costs and legal fees.

The rational of the court? ”It was just a slice of cheese.”

Last I checked, there are still laws in the Netherlands. Also, last I checked, theft is still against the law. It doesn’t matter if it is a slice of cheese, a loose diamond or a luxury car. Theft is theft. For the court to decide that the theft from a major corporation doesn’t measure up is absurd. For the court to decide that the crime is irrelevant because it was “just a slice of cheese” is arbitrary nonsense, and calls into question the clarity and competence of the court.

If we are going to now decide whether or not something is theft based on the perceived insignificance of the item being pilfered, then what about people who steal a $.99 song? That can’t be something you can sue over. After all, it’s just one song…right? It’s just $.99, right? Right, Metallica?

Is it not theft because the target of the crime was McDonald’s? Is there an assumption that this company, with locations around the world and an iconic brand (built on cheeseburgers and paid for from the profits of cheeseburgers!) can, should and must accept theft from its employees because of their size? Must McDonald’s now build theft in to their operating costs? I’m not an economist, but that would mean McDonald’s would have to either raise the price of their burgers, or fire employees to manage the cost of this newly, court imposed “tax.” Firing employees who are doing a good job (and not stealing!) hurts the employee, and hurts the local economy. Raising prices on the burger hurts the consumer – and we did nothing wrong. Why should we have to subsidize the actions of a thief?

The court system simply does not recognize the rights of business. And, in this case, it went out of its way to attack business. So did the writer of this article in the Telegraph. The article ends with a mention of McDonald’s fourth quarter profits:

The decision came days after the fast-food chain reported an increase in net profits by almost 25 per cent in the last quarter of 2009.

De Facto, this reporter is trying to create some type of moral rationale for awarding this thief over $5k, and not punishing her for stealing. McDonald’s had a great quarter, the reporter is trying to tell us. They can afford to part with a measly piece of cheese. Why are they so consumed with profits?!?!? However, the use of the stat backfires. By telling us of McDonald’s impressive fourth quarter numbers, we are reminded of McDonald’s ability to control costs, provide a solid product with unmatched consistency and best manage its operations. We are reminded that – even in this global economy – businesses can achieve financial success if they properly run their companies. We should be applauding this, and learning from their example. By adding the profits of McDonald’s as a way of attacking the company, the reporter unwittingly acknowledges the worthless and irrational decision of the court. The reporter also acknowledges their own remarkably inept observations.

McDonald’s knows better than the courts how to run their company, and was well within their rights to fire this employee. For the court to think otherwise is an assault on businesses. We’ve already proven that McDonald’s system is best for employees, customers and local economies. If the court moves in these directions, and decides to become the HR department for business, then we ensure higher prices, less growth and far more unemployment. For the reporter to add mention of McDonald’s profits as a way of portraying a David vs. Gloiath situation over a “piece of cheese,” is to further attack business for actually being in business, and is condoning theft of large corporations.

A slice of cheese costs $.13. McDonald’s hires approximately 1.5 million people. If each person gets one extra slice of cheese a day for “free,” it will cost McDonald’s $195,000 per day, or $71,175,000 per year. How long do you think McDonald’s will stay in business if you moralize theft, and condemn smart business decisions?

Better get that Big Mac while you can.

Los Angeles, CA January 20, 2010 – Former Florida radio host and current Tea Party organizer Tony Katz has licensed with All Patriots Media, and the Tan Talk Radio Network, to broadcast his show, The Tony Katz Radio Spectacular. Starting February 1, 2010, the network will air the show in Tampa Bay, FL and Little Rock, AR. Show host Tony Katz covers the important subjects of the day, including those with marginal representation in main stream media.

The one-hour daily show positions the concepts of freedom, liberty and capitalism in proper context. Focusing on “right vs. wrong”, instead of “right vs. left”, the show features talks on trending topics including healthcare, cap and trade, big government, and constitutional issues.

“I’m thrilled to be back on the air, and it’s incredibly sweet to be returning to Tampa Bay, a town that has done so much for me over the years,” said Tony Katz. “Being on 880am in Little Rock is going to be wonderful. It’s the heart-of-America places where you get the most honest conversations. And I look forward to being a part of those conversations everyday.”

Yesterday, Breitbart.com reported that Venezuela, under their massively inept leader President Hugo Chavez, will begin rationing electricity this year. From the article:

The new regulations came into effect January 1, with businesses required to comply with reduced consumption limits and authorities warning of forced power cuts and rate hikes if the measures are not followed.

So, let me ask the question now. How’s that Socialism working for you?

(You can answer me when the power comes back on in your neighborhood. I’ll wait.)

Below is a letter I wrote to the members of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition. While I am not a big believer in official tea party organizations, I wanted to relay some thoughts I had on what the next 365 days mean to all of us.

Feel free to share it as you see fit.

Hello all,

Just a reminder that, regardless of what happens today, it is only the beginning. A first step, in what will need to be millions of steps, in order to bring about the kind of country that once again celebrates The Four Basics – Constitution, Capitalism, Fiscal Responsibility and Smaller Government.

For all of us, regardless of individual differences on policy, promotion or even personalities, and regardless of who the victors are tonight, we have 365 days to make the difference. The “national” level will never mean as much as we do in our local communities. We must keep our eyes on that local and statewide prize. Empower fellow Americans to realize they can turn the country from this Statist slide, enable fellow Americans to start Tea Parties and discussion groups where they live, and provide information that allows fellow Americans to debate the issues with confidence, and contact their representatives with conviction.

This is only the beginning. I wish us all well as the real journey begins today. And I pray for our success.

Tony

An incredible short cartoon, called “Make Mine Freedom.” It was made in 1948 by a filmmaker named John Sutherland, who (from some basic research) created over one hundred cartoons from the 40′s to the 60′s.

There is a magnificent comparison to the cartoon, and how millions of Americans feel right now – that they are being sold a magic potion that promises to save them, but will only destroy them. It also does a wonderful job of defending Capitalism, which is – to date – the greatest system for creating the opportunities for wealth and prosperity, and enabling freedom and liberty, on planet Earth.

Enjoy.
