The Media Censorship of Ted Cruz

NBC has a record of selective editing, whether it be purposefully distorting the words of George Zimmerman to build the public image of him as a racist, or MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell editing the words of presidential candidate Mitt Romney to make him look out of touch with “ordinary” Americans. Now, CBS has joined in the journalistic destruction in America by editing out the commentary of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on President Obama.

Sen. Cruz appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer this past Sunday. During the interview, Schieffer asked Cruz many questions about the government shutdown (which was near four months ago). That conversation made the broadcast in full, as blaming Cruz for the shutdown fits CBS’s clear narrative. However, not all that was discussed made it to air. According to Newsbusters:

Based on video from Senator Cruz’s YouTube page and what aired on today’s Face the Nation broadcast, the senator’s comments surrounding President Obama’s “abuse of power” were edited from the program. Instead what aired was a segment that ignored many of the senator’s complaints directed at President Obama

Sen. Cruz was very pointed in his commentary. He said to Schieffer that, “Just this week it was broken that Dinesh D’Souza, who did a very big movie criticizing the president, is now being prosecuted by this Administration.” Schieffer wanted to hear none of it, and tried to stop him, but Sen. Cruz continued, “Can you image the reaction if the Bush Administration had went, gone and prosecuted Michael Moore and Alec Baldwin and Sean Penn?”

Schieffer again wanted none of the conversation, and, clearly, neither did CBS. The entirety of Sen. Cruz’s comments on President Obama’s abuse of power were edited out of the broadcast. Said a different way, an entity that is given the trust of the public airwaves purposefully and willfully censored the words of a sitting United States senator in order to deflect criticism away from their ideological stalwart Barack Obama.

Say what you will about President Obama. Say what you will about Senator Cruz. Say what you will about CBS. But never say that this kind of tactic is American. It’s not.
